.Still Human. by nothingbuteverything .Still Human. by nothingbuteverything
This is a special person in my life. His favorite color is green. His favorite sport is soccer, and his favorite music is found on the Guitar Hero games. Like a lot of kids, he goes to school, and his favorite subject is reading. He loves swimming, computer games, and eating. He likes to dress up as Spider Man for Halloween, and wishes he could be Spider Man in real life. He has his own likes, dislikes, talents, and quirks. He breathes air, his heart beats, his mind thinks, and he has feelings. Oh yeah, by the way, he has autism, but really hes just another human like you and me, and loves to be treated as one.

"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away." - Henry David Thoreau

Faves, features, comments, and watches are always welcome and extremely appreciated. Thank you for any support in advance (although I will try to thank you personally, sometimes life gets in the way)! If you use this picture, please send a link!

Update: To answer a frequent question I'm seeing: Yes, I am sharing with him his feedback, and no, he didn't technically write the text himself, but he did to the best of his ability, so he deserves the credit. In my opinion, yes he wrote it and deserves the credit because he did his very best and that's all anyone can do.

Shit, it looks like my entire family has autism. my dads aspie, i'm borderline aspie, my little bro's aspie and my dad is convinced my mom's aspie. and the "professionals" don't know shit. People tend to judge books by covers and unfortunately with autism (especially asperger's), instead of seeing someone "abnormal", they see someone completely fine and when you can't handle something they don't get it and push u away because they can't understand.

Stay strong

Don't let people tell u you can't do shit cus you're autistic, cus u CAN!

And forgive ignorance, unfortunately the majority of the "normal" population seem to suffer from it.

I love this. My older brother is autistic, and though he is a lot better now than when he was younger, he still sometimes has problems in public, especially in large crowds. I love my brother, and there's nothing I wouldn't do to help him! I just makes me so mad when I hear people say that autistic kids just need to stop acting that way for attention or whatever. And then there's the opposite extreme, where people think that cause someone is autistic, they're not human or something. I wish more people would realize that just because you are born with a condition, does not mean that you are any better or lesser than people born without that condition.

Just like I'm ADHD. People make fun of me but, hey, they don't know what it's like to not be able to learn. They don't know what it's like to be me.

This is so wonderful. My older sister has autism AND mental retardation. When I saw this photo, I learned that my family is probably not the only one who stands up for autistics. Very well done with the photo.

I think this picture is absolutely wonderful! I have an uncle with autism and this picture really hit home. You are completely right. "He breaths air, his heart beats, his mind thinks and he has feelings." I couldn't have said it better myself. I wish that everyone could see the world as you do.

I know i commented on it once, but for me having Autism, it uniqe for me and it makes me who i am as a human. the one thing that makes me uniqe is my love of art,at first, i was shy because of my autism, now, i am 17 almost 18 and trying to become a better artist in this world and making full contact with other artists on this site and on tumblr. I am proud of my autism and that boy will be proud of it too no matter what.

Wonderful and what a sweetie! my eldest son was diagonised as being on the lower end of the autistic spectrum when he was 7. He is now 14, happy and doing well at school. Bullying was one of the biggest problems we've had to deal with. As parents we've tried to teach him his autism is just part of what makes him unique.

I really love the meaning of this!
Youre right! Every human deserves the same chances! But it seems that many people forgot this and many are still forgetting. Why is that?
I dont know! But I know one thing: We are all the same: humans in this world. Everyone deserves the same: a good future.
Hang on and try your best! I hope people will understand at one day.
Good Luck and a happy future :)

Sorry for my bad english (I'm from germany and still learning :))

This picture is interesting to me. From what I've experienced, being autistic makes me worth less than the rest of society. From what people tell me, it's a disease pandemic and that I should kill myself so that I don't go breeding it into society. I haven't managed yet, obviously, but the last thing I want to be is alive if I'm worth that little.
It's confusing to me to think that I'm still worth as much as everyone else even though I have HFA. I mean, if I was worth something, people wouldn't tell me I'm the worst sort of person and that my mother should have aborted me, right? If I was worth something, my dad wouldn't have turned... cold toward me... after he learned of my diagnosis.
GoldManeRoyale Featured By Owner Apr 30, 2012
dont worry dude, i dont have what you have and I get told the same thing. Ive been told these things for half my life and have been single for 5 years.
I'm still a warrior though and I have my respect. i know I shouldnt kill myself
and am worth more than sex.

youre worth a lot. the way I see it. life IS a gift and when you recieve gifts do you throw them away? no, you keep them and cherish them regardless of if you really like it or not. Its a present, so you have to live in the now, let go of the past but learn from it so you can feel hope for the future.

my life is hell, but I still do what i do, Yeah I cry but i wear the tears pridefully and still smile honestly and big.

You gotta be strong, people who say shit like that are ignorant and afraid.
They will never have wisdom like you and i, they dont know what strength is because they dont understand there weaknesses.

besides. i dont look at humans like products, each quirk and difference makes you beautiful and better. different truly is better. i think its fascinating.
were not products made to look like the last one, we're flowers hoping to grow stronger and better than expected of us.

basically it doesnt matter what flower you are, you gotta be the best one you can be, thats what makes you beautiful.

ugh god i talk a lot, that was the most unorganized passage i've ever written. I'm sorry lol.
